Stage 1
We are kicking off the 2020 paddling season again – today we want to introduce you to stage 1 of the Enns river touring route, from Mandling to Schladming.
On an outing of the Kajakclub Schladming with the young paddlers, we took a closer look at the stretch and will try to describe it to you. The stretch is not suitable for beginners; it is whitewater 2, and you should have completed at least a beginner course to paddle it by kayak.
If you still want to take on the stretch, we recommend our inflatable kayaks (funyaks), which you can steer on your own or as a pair.
The stretch is an experience for all the senses; on the Enns you paddle sometimes faster, sometimes slower, and enjoy the wonderful landscape. You get in by kayak with an alpine start; you slide a few metres down a bank before you dive into the water. Then the first bigger waves are already coming towards you. 150 metres further on, a very cool bend awaits you with lots of waves and a few rocks. After the bend it continues calmly for a while with a few waves and rocks in between. Then, shortly after the wooden bridge near the Reiteralm, we come to the first more difficult spot; you can either go over a small wave or over the hole.
At the edge of Schladming there is a natural “slalom course”; rocks keep sticking out of the water; you can challenge yourself and complete a parkour, or simply paddle past them.
Last but not least, right in the middle of Schladming comes a very big wave, the highlight for our young paddlers; it is best to take a good look at the spot first, and then you simply go straight through the middle.
Simply a brilliant experience every time!
